About Us

Rosalie Hall is a Young Parent Agency and accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre dedicated to providing specialized care and treatment for young parents, their infants, and children. Our services include high quality learning and supportive child care program, infant mental health treatment, Live-In Treatment Residence, and a wide range of outreach programs for young families in need. Each year, we deliver evidence-based treatment to more than 1,000 individuals, with an additional 3,000 supported through outreach and drop-in services. Serving Toronto communities since 1914, and operating from our Scarborough facility since 1956, Rosalie Hall carries forward the Misericordia tradition of over 150 years of service. Position Overview

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) supports the delivery of a high-quality, inclusive child care program that responds to the unique needs of the children and families in the Early Learning and Child Care Centre (ELCC). The ECA provides nurturing supervision and engaging programming that reflects children’s emerging skills, interests, and developmental needs. In addition, the role represents Roslie Hall both internally and externally, working collaboratively with families, colleagues, and community partners to ensure the well-being of children and to support program goals.

Summary of Duties

  • Adhere to licensing requirements set out by the City of Toronto Children’s Services and the Ministry of Education.
  • Complete assigned tasks during each shift efficiently and accurately.
  • Lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs) as required to support child care activities.
  • Engage in continuous professional learning to meet obligations for ongoing development.
  • Respond to children’s needs in a supportive, empathetic, and respectful manner.
  • Model appropriate behaviour to guide children in social, emotional, and developmental learning.
  • Implement programming that is developmentally appropriate and offers meaningful learning experiences, balancing indoor/outdoor, quiet/active, and individual/group activities.
  • Implement and maintain daily activity schedules and care routines.
  • Implement activities that support Individualized Support Plans and Developmental Support Plans as needed.
  • Follow Rosalie Hall’s behaviour guidance policies.
  • Observe and document children’s daily activities to inform programming and care decisions.
  • Maintain clear and accurate reporting of accidents, injuries, illnesses, and case notes.
  • Collaborate respectfully with co-workers, families, and community partners.

General

  • Promote the ongoing direction of Rosalie Hall as a respectful and inclusive environment that addresses clients’ needs holistically.
  • Keep all matters pertaining to clients confidential.
  • Adhere to all agency mission, vision, policies and procedures.
  • Undertake shifting tasks and duties in a flexible manner to meet the demands of an expanded and changing program model.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Rosalie Hall deals with a vulnerable client population including infants and young children who are currently unable to be vaccinated against Covid-19. As a result, we are hiring staff that are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to offer as much protection as possible to our clients, staff, and volunteers.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Assistance.
  • Knowledge of best practices in supporting infants and young children, including those from families with complex needs, and familiarity with infant and youth mental health, trauma-informed care, and poverty.
  • Experience creating and facilitating programming consistent with ELCC philosophy and the principles of the Ministry of Education’s How Does Learning Happen? framework.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to competing demands, and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Effective team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to an anti-bias, anti-oppressive approach in working with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies, legislation, and accreditation standards affecting early childhood education within a Children’s Mental Health Centre.
  • Successful police services Vulnerable Sector Screening Check.
